Welcome to Holy Family Parish, Menai
According to the 2001 Australian Census, Holy Family Parish had about 35,000 residents
of whom just over 11,000 named themselves as Catholic. About 950 people
attend Mass on Sundays at Holy Family Church. Others choose to worship elsewhere.
Wherever you choose, we hope that you find there a sense of belonging and
that you are sustained in your faith, knowledge and love of God in Jesus Christ. And
we also hope that your sense of the Church is always growing and vibrant.
The Church is a divine institution, a visible society, a structured organisation of the
followers of Jesus Christ and a human community. It is not a static body. It is
dynamic - powered by the Spirit. As such it needs members with the courage to be
dissatisfied with the status quo, who believe that we can always grow to a deeper
faith and who are always open to fuller ways of expressing what is meant by being
the Body of Christ. The Church herself, through her various councils, including the
Second Vatican Council and in many other documents, has given her members such
encouragement to look for more effective ways of bringing the message of Christ to
the world.
The constant challenges to a Parish, therefore, are to be a place where Jesus is made real and where people know they are welcome. The quality of any community of faith includes the quality of its members' love of Jesus Christ, their loving care for one another and their courage in bringing the Gospel to others. May we keep doing these things in Holy Family Parish.
